Are you thinking that you are losing oil somehow? Or that the last oil change wasn't a complete fill?

Just to add, I recall changing my hydro oil for the 400 hr first change and I poured in the required 7 gallons and maybe a little extra. I do remember having fits with how erratic the machines speed was.

Starting off from cold and idling it would not even move the tractor. The only time everything worked properly was when the engine was cranking at 2000 RPMs. After some correspondence from TBN folks I decided to check the fluid level again and it was at the bottom of the hash marks. So I added a quart and it barely moved the level. Finally I had to dump in a gallon to get it where it should be, then all was good.

But, the dipstick question was always hanging there for me. I think JD got a dipstick engineer that couldn't design dipsticks. Now I know to get 9 gallons and that seems to be the case with others with the same design tractor.

FWIW -- It took a trip to a Deere dealer with my 3320 to discover that the reason my tractor wouldn't move unless the RPM was cranked to 2,000 was that I'd inadvertently disabled Load Match by toggling the front rocker switch into the OFF position. It turns out that I have no power under load to the rear axle in 2WD with Load Match OFF at my usual working RPM of 1,500 RPM, which was news to me since I had never cruised around with Load Match off before.

At last change, the level might have been on the dipstick, which I now know is a large range, and then I added 20 feet of hose and a cylinder for a grapple, so there is half a gallon, and that pretty much covers the five quarts it was low. The lesson we are learning I guess is, keep an eye on the level, and keep it right on full. And, the dipstick wss designed by a dipstick.
