JD 3520
Years ago I thought about doing the same thing but didn't and never looked into it further.
That said, I own a 2009 JD 3520. It is used mostly for mowing and general use when the bucket is needed.
It has a 72" auto connect mid mount mower. I have the R-3 regular turf tires on it.
Sometimes, like now, the ground is rather soft and the tractor will leave ruts.

I was looking into buying the turf special tires (IE golf tires). When the tractor was new, it was sold with the 300 loader and bucket and a ballast box. Never used the ballast box and instead had tires filled with fluid.

Here are my questions. JD says the 72"MMM is not compatible with golf tires. Too wide. The rear castors on mower deck would hit them. Does anyone know of compatible wheel extensions that could work to make it compatible? If I stretched the wheels out and added the golf tires it should work. Another question, is it the rear tires thay are in question? When turning, the front tires clear the front Castors by at most a couple of inches. Wider tires on the front might be the problem?
Anyone know of a setup? Or seen a setup? I can't even find pictures of a JD with golf tires, period.

I would like get rid of the fluid filled tires, install turf special tires by adding wheel extensions if possible, get rid of the heavy ballasted tires, and go back to the ballast box on the hitch.

The tractor is used for yard/field mowing mostly. Bucket is ised for general duties. All homestead chores. Nothing extreme and nothing I would consider hard use or heavy lifting of materials. The tractor isn't used much at all in winter with the exception of some occasion firewood chores or snow removal.

Sorry thay was long. Suggestions? Any help? Good place/price on golf tires? I know they are pricey.

Another option would be to move the rear castors. I had to do this on the left side when I added duals to my F-935. It was simple to do with a piece of 1/2" by 2" steel. I moved the castor about 4".

I looked into this an it's not an option! JD says 72" mower is not comparable with super turf tires.
I could get some pictures but when looking from the rear, the left rear tires rides about 6 to 7" from the scalp rollers on the mower deck. On the right hand side the tires is only a couple of inches from tires. And those measurements are to the outside edge of tires.
The mower deck by design isn't centered with the tractor chassis.
R3 tires are 14" wide on 11 wide wheels, or so I think. I think it would be possible to have super turf on the left rear but not the right wheel.
A wheel spacer would not work.

Also on the front tires, when turning lock to lock, the front tires only miss the front scalp rollers by a couple of inches. If you had wider front tires they would become a problem if significantly wider.

I come to the conclusion, it is a no go. I ain't into modify the mower in any way and move the scalp wheels. I think that would create issuing of removing and installing it since it a drive over deck and the anchors that hold the scalp wheels are in critical spots so they don't hit the tractor frame and linkage supports.

The R3's are fine for almost all uses except in spring in soft ground and wetter weather. It is what it is.

For what is worth, super turf gold tires will work with a 60" deck the anti-scalp rollers are tucked in between the wheelbase. Going wider to super turf tires or using wheel spacers doesn't impose a problem.

Another thing. I love the tractor and 72" MMM. I recommend it to anyone. I don't want a rear finish mower and don't like them. A MMM is soooo much easier to use and operate than a rear mower.
I have and use a 5' bushog for some mowing. That crap of constantly looking behind a d looking backwards to make sure you don't miss cuts or to miss obstacles gets old really fast! Not for me. Using a MMM is vastly more user friendly than a rear mower.

My solution to my rear mower problems and wider tires with a 72" mmm was a well used F-935. I haven't looked back.

Actually the real reason was that I do a lot of custom work with my tractor and it was a pain to remove whatever implement I was using and go and mow the lawn yet. Now when ever I have a bit of time I can just do a bit of mowing here and there and soon the job is done. After I bought the F-935 the real benefits of a non rear mounted mower became evident.

I am not understanding your conclusion above. Did you read the thread provided? Did you get to the part where Nuru says "got the tires on and they fit and work fine! Check it out on this thread.

Did you go to that thread and look at the pics and read the results?
