Looking for someone with a JD 410 loader. Several questions:
I have a box blade attached. Do I need a ballast box?
Is the 49 inch bucket OK?
Is it difficult to attach and detach the loader on the JD4110?

Thanks

I have the 410 loader on a 4100. I have the 54" bucket with a Woods toothbar bolted on. I generally use my TSC 60" boxblade for ballast. No problems yet and I've mooved lots of full buckets of dirt with the combo. You do know that as tractors only have brakes on the rear wheels it's a good idea to be in FWD when going down a hill with a loaded bucket. Particulary on a paved surface. The rear tires can get a little light and your braking eficency goes down.

Attaching or detaching the loader is easy and takes about 2 minutes of less.

To detach:

Lower the bucket and dump to take weight off the front wheels. Lift and slide the release bar on the left arm forward. Let the front wheels back down and use the joystick as though you were raising the bucket. The parking arms will come down and raise the towers off of the crossbar. After the loader is clear of the tractor, shut down and move the joystick to release system pressure. Hop off and disconnect the hoses. Put the dust boots on the hose ends and the tractor couplings. Hop back on the tractor and start up and drive away.

I can do it faster than I can type it. It does make it easier if you're on level ground.

To attach, just reverse the process.

Gary,
I also have a 410, but it's mounted on a 4110. Do you not keep the "clip" on the front of the tractor pinned in place with the loader on? Do I not need to hassel with this when I install and remove the 410? Even with me unclipping the front piece, it only takes me a few minutes to install/remove, but it would probably cut the job down to 2 minutes or less if I didn't have the clip to deal with.

Well, I have to admit that I don't keep it latched. I'm a bad guy I know! Without the latch latched the loader still won't come off unless the wheels are unloaded and the lever is lifted and pushed forward to flip the locking plate. I found that it irked me to get ready to drop the loader and realize after I had unloaded the wheels that I need to let it back down and flip the latch.

Lazy I guess. But you are right, using the latch is the "correct" procedure.

Thanks for quick reply. I balance convenience and "correctness" alot myself. I'll have to decide what I'll do with the locking mechanism. Maybe I'll use it all the time, maybe I won't.
Thanks again.

Depending on what I am doing I have used my rear blade as ballast. If I am just going to be using the loader I like the ballast box however because it cuts down on the length of the tractor. I sometimes need to work in some tight spaces. I have the 61" bucket on mine with a WOODS toothbar. The toothbar is a great item to have /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
