JD 4115
Great site and full of opinions as I expected. I'm looking to purchase a subcompact tractor for light landscaping, light>logging (14 acres), and some snow removal. The majority of the use will be mowing the yard (2+acre) and field (3+acres and expanding). I have read the
specs of the JD4110/4115 and they both seem to be a
good fit for what I had in mind for a yard maintenance and improvement but I'm not sure which machine would give me the most bang for the buck.

The prices quoted from the JD dealer are good for thirty days but would like to make a decision within the neek week as spring is here! That 4115 is one little mean green machine!

JD 4110 HST w/Loader 14,475
54"MMM 1,525
R4 tires 175
50" tiller 1,750
TOTAL_____ 17,925

JD 4115 HST w/Loader 16,350
60" MMM 2,175
R4 tires 150
50" tiller 1,750
TOTAL_______20,425

Just for kicks the JD4210 w/same configuration was quoted at 22,635.

I have read the threads on MMM vs 3-pt finishes mowers about how much less could I expect to save going with 3-pt finish mowers (500?).

Thanks for the input,

Prices aren't too bad; might be able to do a little better. You're in the 14% off range for the whole package price. The mowers are a bit above list price according to the Deere site.

As for which tractor to pick, is $2000 worth an extra 4hp on the 4115? Is $650 worth the extra 6" of cutting width you'll get?

The 4210 may be the best deal. You get 4hp more than the 4115, a bigger tractor, and a larger capacity loader for $2k.

Which tractor suits your needs? I'd try for another $1k off whichever deal works for you and your budget. Or another thing to try is get the dealer to throw something else in the deal, a rear blade, push mower, chain saw, etc.

Thanks for the comments and input. As far as the $650 more for the extra 60" mowing width is you are locked in on the 4115 but I think you have to add in the attachment part for the list price which would give me $200 below list(not much of a disount but some) and it is the smallest MMM for the tractor. What I was thinking about the $2k for the gross 4hp increase but a 3hp PTO alllows the tractor to do more work with less stress, last longer (shouldn't we have that option to) and handle the implements more efficiently. The extra 3 PTO-HP does seem a bit steep for 2k when you first look at it ($667 more per PTO-HP) but I tried rationalizing it by comparing the dollar cost per PTO-HP for both base cost of both tractors(note had to add hydo cost to 4110 because 4115 only comes with hydro). For example:

4110:

Base model list cost is 12,239 with hydro add 1,430 for a total of $13,669. Divide by PTO-HP (13,669/17pto-hp) = $805 per pto-hp).

4115:
Base model (hydo only) ($15,999 /20pto-hp) = $800 per pto-hp.

So, at least I'm convincing myself it is cheaper to buy the 4115. Is that a good thing????

As an aside, I think JD is trying to market this model as the popular JD855 replacement and trying to cash in on getting the old 855 users buying new stuff. I will ask for some frreeee stuff as you suggested and I did make a mistake with the 4210 quote, the tiller was not included.

Thanks again from the Granite State

Hi John I'm in new hampshire also, actually right near you, and looking at a 4110 and a 7500 kubota but the dealers I've been to for john deere can't even come close to the price of the 7500.Which is a bit of a surprise and a dissapointment.I'm talking on the lines of a little over 2500 dollars. Its a great enough difference that i could easily buy a kubota 2410 for less money than a 4110! At least around here the john deere dealers are apparently unaware that kubota is there competition.Where exzactly did you get your offer from?BTW the qoute i got from one dealer without any haggling was 13500 for a kubota 7500 hydro w/r4's,fold over rops and a loader.

257NH,

Whats your name and where are ya from? The prices I received were done visiting the dealer with no haggle whatsoever (just asked for their best price). Like you, one quote I received was about 2K more and did not receive a satisfactory explantion of the difference. Another quote was only $800 more than the posted price and I was told $500 of this was due to setup and prep charges. I could deal with the $300 difference depending on how reputable I think the dealer is but I don't quite buy the setup and prep charges just like I don't buy the advertising cost auto dealers try to charge. I take alot of stock in what the dealer says when I ask for their "best price" and call back with questions after I have time to think it over. Fill out more info on you profile who and where etc.. and I could probably e-mail ya privately.

I think some dealers want to sell a product and make money while others want to make money then sell a product and this makes the difference in the price you pay.
