I Have been researching a few different MFG's mainly Blue (NH) and Green (JD) . I have been reading about some of the Loader Mounting brackets on the JD 400 Loader being cast in China, and being the weaker area of the Loader . That was steering more toward BLUE ( which use USA welded steel mounting Hardware) . I just got a Qoute back from a Local JD dealer , this is what I spec'd out

JOHN DEERE 4120 MFWD COMPACT UTILITY TRACTOR WITH POWER REVERSER TRANS., R4 TIRES AND A 400X LOADER WITH HEAVY DUTY BUCKET AND TOOTH BAR,

I built one at JD website with a Price of $29,603.00.

They told me it is in stock , List Price of $23,948.00 Purchase Price of $20,930.00 . Dealer 25 minutes from St. Louis ( rural dealer )

Have gotten other qoutes from Dealers , $28,314.88 Local St. Louis , ( city dealer) , $25,667.00 Small Town dealer 1 hour from ST. Louis.

Is the $$$ savings today worth the possible problems with FEL 5 - 10 years down the road ??????

Has anyone had recent FEL mounting bracket problems with recently purchased 400 loaders ????

Thanks.

That one quote is almost too good to believe. The other quote is almost too bad to believe, and the middle one is about right. Of course, go with the best quote if you feel it is legitimate and the dealer will stand behind the product. Also, inspect that "in stock" machine VERY carefully to make sure it is both mechanically and cosmetically sound. With regard to the loaders, so far mine has been fine, and our local dealer rents several 400x loaders on its rental fleet, with zero problems. Some have had trouble, but those instances do not seem THAT common, but if it is you, you want adequate support by the company. I would have no reservation recommending the 400x loader, both from personal and indirect experience. The other issue is the wide variance about the prices you have gotten. This fact is apparently a point of emphasis at the dealers' meeting. While I have no idea whether your situation exemplifies this, apparently some dealers have attempted to undercut fair market pricing for a given machine. There has been some noise recently in this area that there should be more reinforcement of the "minimum sale price" on these machines. If that is ultimately done, one may not see the wide variance in prices currently noted, so perhaps jump on that good deal, while it is there.

I, too, have been looking at the JD4120, but also looking at the JD3720. Any thoughts on why you like the 4120 vs. 3720? Any feelings on the Yanmar vs. the Powertech engine?

I'm in St. Louis also. Care to share which dealers are giving you a good price? (You can reply off-list if you feel its appropriate.)

Thanks in advance,
KEG
