Hi everyone........I was out on Saturday watching my wife plow the driveway with her JD 425 AWS and when she went by I heard a load buzzing sound from the transmission under her seat. This buzzing sound changed when the RPMs change with the throttle postion. I also noticed that the hydraulic control levers were squealing when the power angle plow was operating. Last summer I replaced a main line from the resivoir into the main junction valve in the front of the tractor. Since then we have had no problems.....however the deck lift lever did make some noise under operation. Fluid level is fine with hyguard in place. The book says that a hydraulic pump may be scorched??? or plates may be scorched??? Any one else have this problem??? Is there a problem????

Did you look under your tractor to see if a stick or some other debris is stuck in your hydro's cooling fan blades?

I do not understand your question.........the rear transaxle is a sealed unit. The only fan is loacted at the radiator in front of the dash board. The rear casting (according to my shop manual) has a hydraulic pump located inside that supplys fluid to all the steering and lift controls. The trouble shooting guide mentioned squealing mybe scorched plates? or a scorched pump? I do not want to tear this apart to find out if I don't need to.

Whitey, Joe was referring to other JDs which have a transmission fan. Same point would apply to your 425 - since the buzzing changes with engine speed, check the cooling fan, fan belt, and driveshaft for anything stuck in there, or bent/frayed/etc.

For the whining, first change out the hydraulic fluid and filter and see if that helps.

Why did you need to change the hydro line? I'm assuming that's the main feed from the transmission to the steering block?

My wife was cutting grass one day when boom  all the fluid left the underside of the tractor. Upon closer inspection the main line that runs from the rear axle resivoir to the intersecting valve??? this valve looked like the heart of the hydraulic system. Five or six lines intersecting at one point. Any way.....the line was steel with a steel retainer collar tip pressed on the end from the factory. Popped right off. The darnest thing to get at and align with all those lines coming together and a plate to press together. Did I mention the metric hex screws that are recessed into it? The hydraulic fluid that drips on your face???My wife owed me big time when I was done with that. When that was completed I did notice everytime I checked the fluid I noticed vaccumn at the dip stick so the system was leaking a long time. The screen sound like a good idea. If spring shows itself and I take the snow plow off... I will check.
