JD 425 won't stop moving when forward pedal released

beenthere, thanks for the attachment. I think I remember reading about the swash plate bushing previously concerning the same problem. Perhaps this is also something to consider.

I am not using JD low-vis hygard, but instead a jd20C equivalent oil, and I reason that because it stops perfectly after reversing, it can't be the oil. My tractor has 2600 hrs on it, and by the looks of it, it has not been the easiest of work. I had a 455 earlier that had same problem, except even worse, so I am surprised that there are not more complaints or queries of this out there.

Apparently not much of a problem. In 16 years of the 425, 455 --- I've not experienced it.
I use the JD oil, as the difference with a substitute isn't worth any risk, no matter how slight (not that it has anything to do with the problem).
Hope you find the problem and don't have to go inside to fix it. Hope you let us know how it works out.

beenthere,
I see you have over ten thousand posts now, I wan't to say thank you for all your help on this forum.

To the OP,
Hope this discussion albeit a slight hijacking gave you some pointers on what to look for.

Sorry if this was a hijacking, I didn't mean for that. To me, it sounded like we were discussing the same problem which would hopefully help the OP out too.

Hi Fellows,

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions. I've been unable to get to the tractor this week because of other commitments but hopefully I can look at it on the weekend. As the OP, I consider all your posts as positive and helpful. I don't see any hyjacking.

Thanks again,
Bill

I had to take my transmission out anyway (to replace the seals around the brake shaft) and looked it over good on the workbench and to me it felt like the return spring did not have as much tension in returning the lever to neutral from the forward position as it did from reverse. I did not take it apart because it is just not bad enough yet to warrant spending the whole day on it, but that would be my best guess. And if I were to take it apart to replace the spring, I would probably replace the bushing around it as well because that could likely be binding it up slightly too. Like I said, mine is just not bad enough yet.

I've been too busy to get at mine yet. I did notice the other day that when it is cold it works well. forward and reverse both stop right away when I release the pedals. Could it be the fluid? I have been using Ford Type F.
