What is a 1999 425 with 54 inch deck worth. 244 hours, seems to be in very good shape. Needs a deck belt and pto switch.

I've been seeing '95's go for around $4k on E-Bay in the 500 hour range, so I'd look for a good low hour '99 like that to fetch $5000-5500 or so.

That machine is practically new. If you can get it for under $5000, buy it. I love mine.

Bought the tractor, picked up the belt and pto switch from the local(55miles) dealer. Installed the belt with no problem but the switch was the wrong one. Presently using a jumper wire from top right to middle left to start and bottom center for mowing. The switch I got has no terminals in the middle. Is/was there an upgrade/change along the way to make the switch I got work.

Doug, jdparts shows 2 switches, depending on the age of your tractor. Serial numbers from 0 - 70000 take AM118802, and 70000+ takes AM127393. Both are still available from Deere. As a suggestion, instead of driving 55 miles to the dealer and ending up with the wrong part, you could order online. There are a couple of places that do that - I have had good luck with KeepingItGreen.com - The Right Parts for Your John Deere Equipment. Even if you drive a Prius, the shipping costs will still be less than driving 55 miles each way.

Looks like it takes the second version. Looked it up at another dealer today(60 miles) but was in the area to estimate a job anyway. Not too much close by around here. Started to order online through mowmore.com but they only offered one version and could not verify it was right. Seems more fun to go into the dealership anyway.
