While heading out to build a deer stand I happened to flip up a short log that went under the tractor. A hundred yards later I noticed my power steering getting weak and the drive got noisy. Looked under and found a pair of frost plugs in the front of the transmission/differential/rear drive. The larger of the two was punched back into the housing and leaking trans hydraulic fluid.
I eventually managed to insert a 2" rubber plumbers test plug and refill the fluid so I could drive the tractor. I tried to get a replacement plug from the dealer but he couldn't find the right one over the phone. It is 52mm diameter (just over two inches)
Took it to a buddies shop and put it on the hoist to let the snow melt off, planning to work on it in the morning. He came out after supper and got playing around. Removed the old plug, re-installed and added $150 worth of new oil. (now we are up to $250 in new oil, not counting the new oil change back in Sept)
Still dripping. Turns out he didn't use any locktite or other sealer.
I would like to get a new plug but need a part number or description to tell the dealer ( 1 1/2 hrs away) It is just a 52mm deep cupped frost plug but need a JD number as the cup style is hard to find in that size. Any ideas?
