I'm trying to mount my 72" MMM on 4300. Is it suposed to mount to the front hole or the rear hole on the bars that go from the back of the mower deck to right behind the front wheels?

Edit: I have the dedicated lift cylender and not the 3PT Hitch deck lift if that makes a difference.
Thanks.

I suspect the rear holes, if I follow the question. There is a deck attaching point and a lift attaching point if I remember correctly.

Might be able to help if you put up a couple pics.
Also, a bit more description about where you are in the mounting procedure.

Do you have a manual to work from? Shouldn't be a mystery if the steps are followed.

What is hooked up so far?

Sorry description is vague. It must be the front holes, because I cannot get the back ones to work with the front tubes. I don't have a manual for the mower as it was bought used. I thought I had seen one free online last year and it said to use the rear holes. I may be misremembering.

One other question. There is a pully that hits the mower mount when it is fully raised. This does not seem right to me. Anyone else have this? I will try to remember to get a picture tonight. I fully rebuilt and painted the deck this winter and found that someone had replaced the bolt that was on this pully with a smaller sized english bolt. I thought maybe that was why the pully was rubbing before, but I have put the correct bolt back in it and it still rubs.

Nothing should hit when fully raised, so check the connections there too.

Here is a look at the parts. Are the "two holes" you refer to in block 17 and 44 ?
You can get the same from jdparts.com too (free registration).

Also, you can get the manual online from Deere, or at a Deere dealer parts dept.

Waiting for pics. Is the grass growing already where you are?

Yes, that was the 2 holes I was talking about. I couldn't get the rear one to work for me. Maybe that's for the 60" deck.

I probably won't be able to get pictures tonight. Still stuck at work and still need to get the rest of the yard mowed tonight before it rains. Guess I'll be mowing in the dark. I sure wish I had my additional lighting all installed so I can see the sides of the deck after dark.

I'm in Central Ohio and the grass is growing. I wasn't expecting to have to mow for annother 3 weeks of month, but summer came early this year.

Ok, I got pictures now. I got the yard mowed too.

You can see that the deck is not fully lifted and agains the stops. About 1" from the stops. And the pully is rubbing. It has been like this for a while judging from the cuts in the lift mount that the pully has made in the past.

It's the pully top center of the fist pic.

In the deck lift parts layout I posted, look at part 37 (and related parts). There are two of these turnbuckles that likely need to be lengthened out to keep from raising the deck so high that it rubs the pulley.
Someone has shortened them too much, I suspect to get more ground clearance when not mowing.
When you get the deck manual, you will see how to adjust these turnbuckles so the mower deck is level right to left, and also how to adjust the front draft so the leading edge of the deck is a bit lower than the trailing edge for best mowing.
Thanks for the pics.

Thanks beenthere. I know I can adjust the turn buckles, but I thought the deck should bee able to bottom out (or top out) on the stops mounted to the top of the deck and the tractor frame. You can see in the picture that it is about 1 inch from topping out against the tractor frame. Maybe it isn't suposed to???

I had a 4200 with the 72" deck for several years. I believe the reccomended adjustment for the lift-links was to have a 1/4" clearance between those stops and the tractor belly, when the deck was fully raised. I mowed some uneven areas where those stops would actually hit the bottom of my tractor, but I don't believe my pulley ever contacted that bar (like yours is).

Sorry, I don't have any suggestions to help your situation. I no longer have that rig, so I can't go look at mine.

I don't think it is supposed to contact the stops. Adjust the links so when the deck is in full up position, the pulley doesn't contact the deck frame.

And do yourself a favor and order the manual. :)
