I've just bought a John Deere 4300 and the seat is ratted out. Previous owner tells me he has replaced it 2 or 3 times. Any recommendations for a good quality, durable replacement seat?

Thanks

Welcome to TBN:D

Did this tractor live outside? The JD seats hold up pretty well-not sure how the previous owner went through 2 or 3 of them!

Yeah, it was an outdoor beastie. Less than 600 hrs on it, as he mostly uses his dingo for his landscaping business. Shows signs of neglect more than use. Came with front loader, box blade and pasture mower, so should really work out well for me to play on my little 7 acre spread with.

That previous owner may have carried tools in his back pockets...tools can tear up seat upolstery.
If you're just a residential user, I suggest you just go with a factory or decent quality aftermarket seat.

The yellow seat front has completely separated from the black seat back, plus a couple of cracks in the seat itself. Previous owner tried to reglue it, but didn't hold. Anyway, how or why it has failed doesn't really matter to me. Either way, I need to replace it. The local Deere dealer has them priced at $115, not sure which after market unit would be comparable. Probably just get the Deere and call it good.

On another note, got out and played with the 4300 for the first time today. So far, I am liking what I see.

Thanks for the responses.

Sounds like the seat on my used 4500, except I think it was more like $135 to replace.

I was wondering if it might be a recurring theme. Sounds like a possibility. How is your second seat holding up?

I've a 4300 with near 700 hours, had it since new in '99. There are some cracks showing up and it is always in a shed.

I'm near to buying a new one, and figure it is just pennies per seat times that I have enjoyed. And the only wear part that I've encountered so far.

Hope you enjoy your 4300 as much as I have enjoyed mine.

RavensRoost, yeah, sorry. I gotta learn to be more specific when I reply to these threads.

beenthere, I hope to get a lot of good out of it. Seems like a nice unit. I'm thinking I'll put the new seat and some kind of seat cover to help protect it from uv. That oughta extend the life quite a bit.
