JD 4300 - what size 2 bottom plow and disc harrow work best?

Hi gang,

I have a Deere 4300 (30 HP, 3,000 lbs) with R-4 tires. My farm is a good sandy loam, very little clay. I need to break some new ground,
looking to vastly increase my mini-farm to about 3 acres. Advice on plows and discs would be helpful and appreciated.

I had a 4310 which is the same size. I would look for a 2 bottom 12" plow and a 5.5' disk.

After I got a tiller for my 3020 I sold my plow and disc, the tiller does a wonderful job. 3 acres is not too much to do with a tiller and after plowing and discing you would still have to till it anyway. I think a 2 bottom 12 in. plow would be hard to find and I not sure it would pull 2 14s.

OK Travis, you got me on that one. I guess what I meant is that used 12 in. 2 bottom would be harder to find than a new one. Us industrial gardeners usually look for good used equipment because we don't use it enough to justify new. That's just me, I can't speak for Sam.

Thanks for the feedback folks! Billy Bee, I have a tiller as well, just want to turn a bit more soil. You're right about used plows, ain't many out there.

Travis, I bought my cultivator from EA, before y'all started charging NC tax. It's a nice piece of equipment.
