Buying Advice JD 4310 with backhoe price

I'm a little concerned power for operation uphill with the 4310 and 3320...

As long as you're in the correct range (and gear, if a manual tranny), uphill work won't be a problem...

They wanted $18,500. The hours looked like they were hard hours (lots of big rock work with the bucket, dents in hydraulic lines). I passed on it.

Based on Roy's advice and factoring in depreciation with different models, I'm still exploring used (but also considering new with financing) and trying to narrow between JD and Kubota. I'm a little concerned power for operation uphill with the 4310 and 3320 and about comments I've heard on the JD 3320/3520 about stability on sloped ground, as I only have a collective couple hundred yards of flat area in my 20 acres, everything else is hilly.

On the outset, a 4310 with 48 backhoe and only 300 hours would EASILY be worth $18,500. But, if you looked at it and it was a rental or abused, it could be worth less. Don't let a few bends in the bucket dismay you. Buckets get torn up, paint worn off, teeth bent this is normal. Its part of using it. Hoses can be made for less than $50 bucks if you know where to order from. Maybe you can find a scrapped out 4310 or 4410 and salvage the 3pt stuff. I think $18,500 sounds like a really good deal. Heck, the 48 hoes were over $8000 and the 430 FELs were $3200 or more. If you kick the tires too long, it will sell.

BTW, a 4310 with a backhoe/thumb or FEL/grapple will struggle and probably not lift a big tree. I'm talking a 12-15" trunk post oak 20' tall. You will have to cut into sizable chunks or drag it to your burn pile. If you want to clear with a backhoe and FEL, you need to look at a construction grade backhoe. Buy a used one and plan on using it for however long it takes to get the big stuff knocked down. Then sell it when done and buy your compact tractor for maintaining the place. Just my 2 cents.

I tend to buy new equipment... so, I'd never argue with "walking away" on a questionable used machine. That said; you can buy alot of buckets and replacement lines for $12,000!

Most of the comments/concerns regarding the 3000 series and stability on hills were cab models.

Many owner's with cabs opted for wheel spacers. Seemed to make most everyone sleep soundly at night!

Thanks for the help fellas. The 4310 is gone. I obviously wasn't ready to pull the trigger anyway, but I have a better idea of what things are worth now.

I have a 3320 with a lite duty grapple. I love the tractor and grapple but find that it can pick up heavier logs than I feel safe transporting any distance even with lots of ballast. I have learned to cut trees to a size that keeps me feeling safe. I have a hilly property and my "pucker" factor kicks in way before I have ever run out of power, either in lift or forward motion.

I have a 07 3320 and a gator LD48 grapple and it will handle a 15" x16' log with no problem SHADOW 753
