JD 4400 starting problems

Just attached a new box tiller. Test drove it and all was good. Came back to adjust depth. Now the PTO indicator light won't go out when you turn the key and it won't turn over. PTO lever is in OFF position and voltage to starter is good. It just won't turn over. Wondering if PTO safety switch is stuck. Any suggestions?

Do you have a mid PTO also?

Are you sitting in the seat when trying to start it? Need a bit more info, maybe.

No mid PTO. Yes, I am sitting in seat. Actually that's not necessary. I can hear the starter engage and the fuel shut-off solenoid is clicking.

If the PTO light is on, then the switch is stuck closed and the machine won't start. You need to find it and try jumpering the two wires to get the light out.

Any thoughts on where that switch might be?

JDParts does not show the location, and I don't have the tech manual for that series, but I suspect its near where the lever goes into the tranny case. The PTO and Neutral Start both use the same switch, it should have two wires going to it.

I'm looking in the tech manual now.. be back shortly.

Found a pic that shows the rear PTO switch just below the PTO lever. Not sure what to tell you if you do find it. See if there are loose wires, I guess.

Whoops! This pic is in error, as it is the mid PTO switch. Can't delete it...don't know why.

Think I might have traced it to a bad relay. But which of the K1 thru K11 relays would I check first. And can it be tested with a continuity tester or does it need voltage to test?
