Bought my first rider after moving into our new home. It's a 445 with 1550 hours. I ran it for probably 2 hours and it's been running pretty rough. Things I have done

Changed oil and coolant
Topped off trans
New air filter
New plugs
New fuel filter (havent gotten to put it in yet)

It has been running pretty rough, especially when idled low. I put an I line spark tester between the right coil and its definitely cutting out. The left seemed fine. Other than needing a new coil, for the heck of it I metered the 2 leads going to the coil. Sits about 7 volts. To my knowledge it should be 12v after researching. Anything else I should check? Other than this it seems like a solid mower. I plan on replacing the fuel filter and running some seafoam here probably tomorrow. Thanks everyone

Your plan sounds like a good one.. hope the Seafoam and the filter clears up the problem, but suspect the voltage found is an underlying clue.

The service tech manual for the 445 would be good to have in your possession now and if you plan to do your own work in the future. Compared to a dealer visit, I find them priceless.

Others will chime in with more help, I'm sure.

Glad you found TBN

Thank you, I did actually acquire the original manual. It came with the quick hitch, 60" deck, and 54" plow as well. I will be picking up a new coil today, seems like they are pretty common of going out. Does the supply voltage seem a little on the low side? Battery checks out fine

The service tech manual? or operators manual?

I'll look in a moment at the service tech manual that I have.. covers the 425, 445, and the 455. See if I can find some troubleshooting info with voltages.

Ahh shoot I have the operators manual. If you have a service tech one thatd be great. I'll take a look online as well. As for the coil, I picked up and put it on. It sputtered for a second when I lowered the throttle but it didnt stall and lined out. Only ran it about 10 minutes or so though. Fuel filter will be put on tomorrow.

Awesome thank you. Back to the drawing board here. I removed the deck to do the fuel filter. Was going to turn it around to work on in my garage and now it wont start. No spark to the coils (battery reads 12v) and I dont seem to hear the pump run under the seat now. Removing the deck went well, only other thing I did was put leaned bulbs in the front since the one was bad and they work fine. Both 15a fuses appear to be ok, and my 10a inline looks fine

I would look for the two LEDs on the ignition/safety interlock board first, they both should be lit if everything is ready. (Seat should have 50 lbs on it to set the seat safety switch, or a by-pass connector in place).

Yes sir, I double checked the board and pulled the fuses. They were "good", but one had a cracked body, the other full of dust. Replaced all three and good to go. Much appreciated on the manual too, got the fuel filter replaced, deck removed and plow hooked up for the winter

So it is back to a fully running tractor?
