My 447 backhoe (JD3120, FEL, BB, 5' Bush Hog, 6' Woods RFM) has a stuck pin on the crowd to boom connection (sorry if my terminology is incorrect...total newbie). I cannot force any grease into the fitting, and after replacing the bolt that holds the pin in place, it sheared off instantly. How can I free up and/or replace this pin? Tried pounding it out with a hammer, but it won't budge. Any ideas appreciated. :(

BTW, first time post, love all the info.

thanks, Dirt Ditch! The part is the PIN FASTENER that attaches the DIPPER STICK to the BOOM. The cap screw is sheared off and the zerk fitting will take no grease. Maybe a grease fitting rejuvenator might help? I have no idea how hard it will be to remove the pin. Suggestions?

Try taking some weight off of the joint by pressing the bucket to the ground a bit. Not so much as to bind in the other direction. If I understand correctly the pivot pin must be binding in the boom for the retainer to shear at the dipperstick, right? You can try taking the grease fitting out and clean as much crude out as you can and then fill the hole with penetrating oil. Then lightly tap on the joint with a hammer to set up some vibration. Let it sit and keep trying.

They also make a impact grease gun that you hit with a hammer to drive lubricant into a joint Impact Fitting Cleaner at National Tool Warehouse

Keep us informed.

The JD 310 backhoe at work had a boom/frame pin that would never take grease. Turned out the pin was made with a slot for the grease to flow but it had been installed backwards at the factory, there was no where for the grease to go past the grease fitting. We stretched out the boom resting the bucket on the ground to release the pressure on the pen. It was a tight fit. I think we used an old socket just smaller than the pin to drive it out so we would not swell the end of the pin.

hanks for the great suggestions, guys. I am out of town on business for two weeks, so I won't get to try the fix for a while. I will be sure to let you know how it works out. BTW, the 447 is a GREAT little BH. Have removed a dozen stumps and it just never quits. Other than this grease joint, it has been a flawless performer. Pics when I get back. thanks again.
