I have an older JD 4475 skid steer. It started a few months ago abruptly shutting off. It doesn't sputter, it just shuts off like you turned the key off. I changed the fuel filter and hydraulic filter. It is still doing it. It happens after it warms up for a couple minutes, then it shuts off after about 45-50 seconds of running. It starts back up immediately without issue - runs 45 seconds and shuts off again.

Any ideas?

Any direction will be appreciated.

My oil furnace does the same thing when it cant detect that its running - no flame or cant detect flame. ... So that is a sensor on the furnace. Perhaps JD has a similar sensor that is malfunctioning and instigates a time out on the fuel solenoid.

Or maybe it is just the fuel solenoid in an early failure mode. :confused3:

Would a bad fuel solenoid cause the engine to shut off so abruptly, without sputtering?

Thanks for your response.

I would be checking if it has an oil pressure switch and if so disconnect it and see what happens.

If you can see the fuel solenoid and get to it to put your hand on it to feel if it is shutting off (should feel its movement). At least that will tell you if it caused by the fuel solenoid shutting off or not. If it is shutting off then it is either solenoid going bad or an electrical problem that is supplying voltage to the solenoid (if solenoid is electrically controlled). Could be as simple as a bad connection.

Yes. The fuel solenoid is what cuts the engine off when you turn off the key.

... And this is a good idea. ^ ^ But then be SURE you have oil pressure.
