JD 455 Fuel Pump

   / JD 455 Fuel Pump #11
Hi, I have a 1999 John Deere 455. Changed all the fluid and filters tonight but saved the fuel filter for last so I would smell like work. Anyhow I changed the fuel filter and all the sudden the darn thing would not start. So I reckon I looked at dozens of these internets before I found my problem. All I had to do to get my fuel pump working again was wiggle around the inline fuse and darn it that pump didn't start humming. So thanks to you'll who said he used a wire tie to keep a good connection by holding that darn fuse in there tight. Thank you much.

Glad you posted your result, but now I need to locate what you refer to as the "inline fuse".. Have not had that experience .. yet.

Can you post a pic of your fix? thanks

Yes I will upload a picture. See if I can figure out how to do that. IMG_0340.JPGIMG_0339.JPG

All them splices were there when I bought it. Not the way I would have done it. I'm figuring on restoring the tractor, 60" deck and 47" snow blower to as best I can.

I hope you installed a brand new fuse with di-electric grease on the blade terminals? (Or petroleum jelly). That area of the console is a dust trap and the fuse blades corrode eventually. It is possible to remove the 'female' terminals from the fuse-holder, crimp them to tighten their grip and re-insert.

There are some pretty ugly, retro-fitted 'Scotch-lok' fittings shown (blue) which indicate 'altered wiring'. These are unreliable long-term. You need to find-out what they are connecting and replace them with better connections if they are to remain. (IMO).

Thanks for those pics.. very helpful and now will take your advice as well as Spanner's

I keep that area blown out with the air hose on a regular basis.. and don't let water get in there unless it can't be helped.

Yep Thank you. I did all that and just to be sure I put a pink wire tie around it so if it breaks and I'm plowing snow at the airport my wife will easily be able to find the only pink thing in there. Them blue splices are on wires that go nowhere so someday I will get a wiring diagram and figure it out. Thank you again. Great input offered on this forum.
