X series have 2 different front PTO systems. 2WD has a bracket, although different in style, which is a similar system to the older 400s. 4WD, is what you have seen. They run a stub shaft thru the front wheel drive axle to connect the long shaft under the tractor to and the drive shaft on the snowblower to.
It might be worth getting with a salesperson that knows your tractor and snowblower and go over exactly what you have and need. Any of those parts are expensive, so let's try not to ruin any of them!
I can't imagine the sound/sight/feeling of the driveshaft banging around inside the front axle. If it is bent or damaged,, and you truly have one off an X series,, it doesn't matter anyway because you will need one for your 455.
