JD 455

Hi, I am new here and have a question and hopefully some can help. I am looking at buying a 1995 JD 455 AWS 54". It has the 3cyl yanmar diesel engine with about 755 hours on the machine. My question is; as this being a 15yr old machine how much longer is this thing gonna last? It has a really good price on it and i'm not sure when i'll find another one in this good of shape. I hope someone out on here can help with my purchase decision.

Best GT you can buy. One of the best ever made. If it's been well maintained and you do the same, It's got another 15 years in it, easy. If you can get it for under $4500 or so, you shouldn't wait.

I have AWS and love it for mowing and snow plowing. It really cuts down on mowing time and when plowing you still have good steering with the rear wheels. In tight spaces it can't be beat.

However, you can't add a loader on an AWS and ground clearance is real low (on the 400 series, better design on new machines).

I agree with the JD 455 being the best you can get. And agree with the $4500 price. Anything less is a bargain.

I looked for two years to find the JD 455 AWS with 54" deck. The newer decks are not as good at cutting grass evenly (and I have a newer 54C deck to compare too).

Last year I settled for a JD 425 AWS 54" deck because it was what I wanted sans the diesel. This year I found the diesel 455 and couldn't be happier.

I wouldn't be without the AWS, and it is bullet-proof (will wear and eventually need some re-build, but it is tough). I had my doubts 13 years ago when I bought my first one. But not anymore.
