Hi. I have a decison. I used the configure feature at JD's website and got the following MSRP prices.

For the 48 backhoe w/24" bucket and rubber street pad kit--$7,879.

The 460 FEL w/ 73" materials bucket--$3,986

The MX6 72" lift-type rotary cutter--540 RPM PTO--$2,247 (This rmm wasn't much more than a 72" mmm. Ease of attaching/detaching it is the key here.)

And last but not least is the JD 4600 itself. The final price of the tractor itself is $25,399. I added the following optoins:

BASE MACHINE $18,725.00
106DLV 4600 Tractor

FRONT AXLE $2,235.00
1005 4 Wheel Drive (Engage on the Go)

ROPS (ROLL-OVER PROTECTIVE STRUCTURES) $170.00
1505 Tall Folding ROPS

Required for use With Backhoe.

TRANSMISSION $2,855.00
2025 Hydrostatic

MID PTO In Base Price
2500 Less Mid PTO

WHEELS WITH TIRES (TWO) FOR 4600 TRACTORS $565.00
4560 10-16.5
17.5L-24

SELECTIVE CONTROL VALVES $750.00
7010 Dual Selective Control Valve

ROCKSHAFT AND DRAFT LINKS In Base Price
7500 Rockshaft With Flat Bar Draft Links

Configured Features- Optional

9055 55 Amp Alternator $99.00

The grand total of the tractor, options, and attachments is: $39,511. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif Do these prices sound right? What type of deals do you think the dealer will give? How much do you think it will be at a dealer vs MSRP? And what are your opions on this machine with the options and attachments? And lastly, does anyone have this model type and how do you like it? Sorry for the "21 questions" but I really need to know this info. The tires are R4s. Industrial? Thanks. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Syxx,
That's my exact tractor. I really like it but I didn't pay anywhere near that. I have about 25k in my tractor loader and backhoe! I also wouldn't pay the $2247 for the rotary mower. You can find those all day long at farm sales for about $100 a foot for good Woods or older JD. Kingcutter makes a very good quality one as well brand new for less than $600. The only difference on my tractor is that I have an 18" bucket and not the 24" bucket. Look at jdlawns.com. They already have theirs discounted and if you call him he will work with you a little more as well. I know that doesn't work with where you live but it gives you and idea of the deals that are out there.

Syxx,
Just looked it up at jdlawns and you are about $32,000 for everything you mentioned. BTW I would go for the ag tires over the industrials unless you are going to be doing alot of finish mowing.

Thanks for the info. 25K is a HUGE difference. Even 32K for the options I had chosen is better than what the MSRP was. A dealer will somtimes sell a product for about 20% less, don't they? Btw, what are Bar tires?

This price thing has been gone over quite a bit. Around here most dealers sell at 20-30% below retail but we are within a 100 miles of JD headquarters and JD stores are everywhere. Elsewhere I have heard guys say that dealers won't budge from list price so it's hard to say. I would say at least get 20% off.

The bar tires are the ag tires. They are skinnier with more tread. I have the industrials and they are not nearly as good as ag tires in mud, snow, and ice but they are a little easier on the ground.

Also with the new model 10 series coming out you should get near to dealer cost with a 4600. If not I would definitely wait another month for the 10 series to come out.

I don't think many people have gotten as good JD prices as Cowboydoc. As he says, he is in an area with a lot of competition, and I suspect he is a Godfather-level negotiator. Here in CT, you would be doing very well if you got 15% off list from JD. I also would wait for the new series. You may like the new features a lot, and even if you dont, the prices on the older 4000 series can only go down on both new and used machines.

Here where I live we have a ton of agriculture and many, many JD, Case, CAT, New Holland and Kubota dealers. They must all be in cahoots on price because they vary little on it. JD's tend to run higher for comparable HP compacts but not so much to make them out of the question or at least considered. Rat...

Syxx_Killer: I have pretty much the same tractor you are ordering, but I have the 4500 instead of the 4600. I would suggest a couple of changes to your list.

1) Pay the extra $100 and get the Heavy Duty FEL bucket. Trust me, it is the best $100 you will put into your tractor if you plan on back blading, moving rocks or gravel, or plan to push on anything like a tree. The 'Standard Duty' bucket is easy to damage.

2) I would suggest reconsidering your backhoe bucket size. The 24" bucket is pretty wide. I use a 12" bucket, and it seems to be a good size for the machine. This really depends on what you plan to do. The 12" bucket ends up digging about a 16" wide trench after slumping the sides. Did you really need to go wider than that? The 24" bucket would be good for moving more material, but it isn't going to dig as well unless you live on sandy or very loose soil. I also have a 36" bucket for clearing ditches, but have yet to actually use it.

3) I have a mechanical thumb on my backhoe. I use it constantly, and consider it to be the best feature on my tractor. I have been moving lots of rocks, logs, and stumps. I can pickup a 12" x 70' Douglas Fir tree if needed. It is also great for grabbing 2" to 4" alder trees and plucking them like weeds. If you are flush with cash, the hydraulic thumb would also be nice, but the mechanical thumb works well. Mine is made by Rankin. I belive it came out to be $525 installed (it is welded to the forearm of the backhoe. It does fold up and out of the way for digging.

I didn't get the rotary cutter, but my 4500 with FEL,powersync reverser, backhoe, R4 tires, fiberglass top, the 3-point hitch weight box, extra 36" bucket, 4WD, and backhoe thumb came to be $34,120 in the Seattle area.

Syxx_Killer,

I have a 4700 MFWD with PowerReverser, JD 48 with 18inch bucket, JD 460 FEL with 4n1, MX6, hydraulic top link and a box blade I bought almost a year ago. With tax it was around 37K. If you search this forum you should see a break down on the prices I paid.

I think I got 15% or there abouts off list price. The dealers in my area where pretty much the same price regardless of brand.

A 24 inch bucket on the JD 48 is big. Do you need to dig up lots of big holes? I think the 18 inch bucket was a good compromise for me since I"m digging up stumps with mine.

Hope this helps...
