JD 950 JD 5055e
I was trying to start my 5055 Deere, say 40 degrees out (maybe upper 30s), and it cranked for about 2 seconds and then instantly quit. No click no nothing. Battery was due for replacing so put in a new battery. Still nothing, no click or anything.

When I had tried to start it and it cranked for 2 seconds and then quit, I had forgot to use the cold weather procedure to activate the glow plug...not sure if that mattered. Now, when I turn the key to start, there are 3 dash lights on: the air restriction indicator, the charging system indicator, and the oil pressure indicator. Not sure if those normally come on or not.

Any advice to troubleshoot would be appreciated!

Most people would start with the battery when that happens. You replaced yours with a new one? Next step is cables/cable connections. Logical first step in that direction is the ground cable where it bolts to the tractor near the radiator. Very common reason for a sudden "no crank" condition. Once all four connections have been verified, you move on to other possibles.

Check your starter. Deere had a bunch of them with junk starter solenoids. If I remember correctly, you can't buy just a solenoid from Deere, you need to get the entire starter ($400). I bought a (China) replacement solenoid on ebay for around $40.

My starter cranked slow since it was new. Two different dealers said it was fine.o_O
After replacing the solenoid it worked great.

All good advise so far and I'd also check all your fuses since its very easy and quick to do.

Thanks; I saw on YoutubeYT that there was alot of talk about the cold weather timing advance sensor. One indication of that problem is the starter relay fuse being blown. I checked that fuse on my tractor and it is blown so I am getting some spares. After I replace that fuse, I will see if the sensor is the problem. I have been trying to identify the part number of the sensor for HOURS with JD parts and I still don't have an answer. I can't believe how much of a difficulty it has been in trying to get a part number! It doesn't seem to appear in the schematics.....finally I asked parts to seek the help of service....

U don’t have to replace it inorder for the tractor to start, JUST UNPLUG IT.. & replace the fuse..
