Tractor
Massey Ferguson 461, mfwd
Hello, thinking I am close to pulling the trigger on a new JD 5055e tractor with a H240 loader. Also trying to trade in my Massey Ferguson 461 on it. So far I have heard from one dealer, of two that i would like to work with. They are both about 45 min away so that is a non-issue.

The dealer I have heard from I really like, and want to go with. They are quoting me $32,965 for the machine plus $7598.40 for the loader, for a total of $40,564 w/tax. Subtract a trade allowance for $10,995 for mine.. If I sell my machine outright then I can knock $2500 of... ( on a side bar, why don't they just say $8500 for mine? what's the difference? $2500 less for the new machine if I sell mine??? ) anyhow. The other dealer has not gotten back to me on his trade in numbers, but he quoted $38,317 for the tractor and loader.

i am really hoping to go with the dealer that I have the higher price from.. they have been really good to my father and they are a top notch dealer as far as I know, is it okay to bring both quotes to him and say "listen, I really want to work with you guys, can you work to meet this pricing?"

I have never owned anything brand new in my life, excited, but $40k is a ton of money and every nickel I can save I want to. I would assume that neither dealer as at their bottom line, if one's first quote it at 38k, they must have wiggle room there too, right?

Just went thru this a week or two ago. I didn't buy from them but use as a price reference.

Tractor Packages at Fosters Farm and Equipment Supply

I went with my local dealer. Fosters was about 15 mins further. I had the dealer throw in a 75qt yeti ($400) and cat 2 quick connect ($580) normal prices. If I remember correct my tractor with power reverser, cab, loaded tires, Bluetooth radio($300), yeti($360), and JD quick connect($460) was a hair under 33k, h240 loader with global carrier, 73" bucket and pallet forks was $7,700 pallet forks were about 1k of it.

Also got zero interest for 72 months. Hope this helps as a comparison.

I have no clue what a good price would be for that JD tractor. My guess would be 10-15% off MSRP. However, if you really would prefer to buy from the first dealer at the best price, I suggest you negotiate with the second dealer to get his price down before taking that bid back to the first dealer to match.

I would think the dealer would work with you a little. Just don't expect wonders. I think 40K is a little high, but that's mostly a guess. You should post in the JD forum for better info. Shop around a little, get some prices, talk to your dealer. And I would pay a little more if the dealer was top quality above the others. Don't rush into it, 40K is a lot of cash.

40k is a ton of cash, no doubt! Incidentally I heard back from the other dealer, their pricing and trade is unquestionably better.... Like much better. I think I am pulling back the hammer tomorrow.

I'll keep you all posted.

John. Thank you

No need to rush into a deal. You have two dealers trying to sell YOU a tractor. Make them compete.

You're right about rushing in, but almost 8k difference! No way could the other match it. I need to talk with the dealers today. One of the things is that the more expensive price is on a 2015 5055e, the cheaper is on a 2014 that is already on the lot. Even though the new hood is slick looking, and as dorky as this will sound I like the new exhaust like the larger machines, I really want to stay with the largely emission free 2014 compared to the loaded tier 4 2015.

Tier two was a big selling feature for me. Make sure you are comparing the same tractors though. The power reverser is about a 2k upgrade over the 9/3. Definitely worth it.

I had a quote (no dealing) for 30 k for a 12x12 5055E and 8k for 553 loader (CDN Money) but I understand there was a rebate on at the time of my quote
