Hi Browndog, looks like the the sensor you need is code 58222. Found quite a few with Google search using that code/part number, you can see what it looks like anyway
Must be something about that sensor. I washed my tractor after sinking it in mud twice in one day and mine was doing the same. Har the tech look at it when he was at the farm and by that time of course it was working again. BD, I'm on the road working so I can't look in the tech manual to answer your question. I would think if it does leak you could get the old one out and the new one in without losing much oil.

It definatally threads in , have you unplugged the wire at the sensor and sprayed with wd40? Might just be bad connection . I don't think there's any adjustment to it
I am not sure on your tractor, but on my JD 6415, the PTO sensor and ground speed sensor are the same P/N. When I had issues, I swapped them to confirm the sensor was bad.
