JD 5301. tractor with JD 512 loader. On loader one bucket hydraulic shaft nut came unthreaded-and came out. Removed cylinder and put in seal kit and replaced nut and tighten. Reattached cylinder to loader and now cylinders is extended all way out but will not retract. Have changed hose attachment in every possible way in case of a mistake of reattachment. Any ideas?

Check that your quick-couplers are both seated correctly?

Agree, check couplers.

And are you sure you got the seals right? Many configurations for piston seals. Some are lip seals and use 2. Those only seal one direction. Possible you installed one of them wrong or one got pinched or rolled

Pull one of the pins holding the suspect cylinder. Move it out of the way. If a helper is holding it, be prepared for it to move. Don't hold it in a way that could pinch his fingers or hand!
Then use hydraulics to see if the OTHER cylinder will retract the bucket. GO SLOWLY! If the hoses are connected properly, one cylinder will roll the empty bucket back and forth, but at twice the normal speed.
If the OTHER cylinder moves normally (but faster) the hoses are connected OK and the problem may indeed be in the refurbished cylinder.
