jd 5200 lopey idle

new to me jd 5200 has a lopey idle esp when 1st cold started and seems to clear up some when warm, once you get it up past idle it purrs. haven't had anytime to go through and change fluids or filters yet. it was sitting for a few months b4 we got it. any help would be great.

Work it for a bit and see what it does. Partly plugged Filters usually don't make the engine run like that, what usually happens is big lack of power or sounds like the engine is not running "a miss" on all the cylinders.

Sounds like the governor is doing its job.... Not uncommon for a cold diesel with a mechanical governor to do.... if it is a mechanical governor.

Kubota 5 cylinder 'M' series had that same lopey idle brand new, fresh out of the crate, first time started.

I agree with spruce. Could, very well, be the governor searching. Regular use may clear up the problem.
