I was curious; What is the speed of the lowest gear? I think the tractor is near perfect size and power wise but it needs to go slow enough for a harley or possibe tiller. I've seen a post with the proper info but I can't find it now. TIA...

IMO a VERY enticing tractor if you're already looking at the high (power/size) end of CUTS - especially if you appreciate mechanical simplicity and straightforward tractors. Unfortunately the tranny does somewhat limit this tractors flexibility. First gear, low range is just 1.86 mph (assuming 14.9-28 R1's). That may be too fast for successful tiller use in some conditions. A creeper option on the '05's would be great but Deere doesn't offer it on the 5000-Fives or an 4000's now. You have to go up to the 5000-Twenty Five series to get a creeper.

Here's a link to the 5000-Five owner's manual - the ground speeds in each gear are listed:

On the 4x20 series with the 12x12 tranny, in the A range and in 1st gear, it couldn't really go any slower for me. If it did, it would essentially be stopped. I have only found a few things to do in the 4 gears in A range. Usually (even tilling), I find a useful gear in the normal B range.

Thanks for the link! Interesting findings... My 1050 will go 0.8 in low first but it still pulls a tiller ok in low 2nd. If I remember, that's about 1.5 or somthing so the 5205 is a bit fast.

Disappointing, That size machine seems to be about the perfect size. Guess I could use the 52 for heavy ground work and keep the 1050 for finishing up.

Be a real shame to keep two tractors around, dunno how I could manage. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I am attracted to the 5205 also, mainly for plowing with a 3 bottom and being able to go to turfs or r-4s on my 970.

My 970 rototills best in 2nd also for just cutting the top off of turf or shallow tilling 3rd works good.

keep us posted if you get to demo one.
