JD 5220 thermostat removal instructions

I have a JD 5220 and wanted to remove the thermostat before changing the coolant. The 5220 manual has a picture of a different JD model but I think the thermostat housing is near the upper hose but there seems to be a lot of things in that area to remove before the thermostat is reached. I searched online but could not find instructions for removing the thermostat for this model.

I have done it on my 5210 and attached the page from the tech manual for my tractor.

My addition to what is on the manual. When you pull out the by-past tube from thermostat part # 9, it will just lift up and out of the way. I suggest you buy a new gasket part # 6. Follow the torque specs in the manual, so as not to break the thermostat cover.
