Hello. New here so please forgive me if this question is answered within the volumes of threads. I would be grateful for advice comparing the following tractors. We are considering one of the 5x25 (5225 or 5325) or comparable new E series (5055E or 5065E). First I realize the 5x25 series has been replaced by the M series and yes I am comparing a model that would be a few years old versus new or newer. However with the pricing differences between the M and E, plus the fact that we will not be using this tractor on a routine basis so used seems the way to go. I think the 5x25 would be a better ,heavier chassis and is made in US as opposed to India, but what else?

Our property is in eastern Illinois and most of the tillable acreage (25 ac) is leased out to a local farmer. We want to mainly have a tractor to keep trails open by mowing, move debris with a loader, use a rear tiller, and perhaps a grain drill for planting food plots.

Thanks again for any and all advice

I would go with the 5X25, if you can find low hours. I went with used and was able to purchase from a private individual. The amount I saved in taxes paid for everything I needed to do to it. If you go the 5X25 route, do a search as just a few people reported starting problems. Also you maybe be able to find a 5X25 with a wet clutch. To me a better way to go then with a dry clutch. I do not think this is an option on the 5055E. This to me is the big difference between the two.

Looks like you have already done some caparisons, but if you have not been to tractordata.com I would suggest you visit that site. I also included a few sites to get prices and availability of 5X25, if you have not already visited them.

Good luck lets us know how you made out, along with pictures.

Thanks. Great point on the clutch and transmission. That was something we were aware of but forgot to mention. Believe the E series has two transmission options versus the 5x25 series which has the power reverser 12/12 as the 3rd option.

Is there anything I would be significantly limited on if I went with the 5225 versus the 5335?

The wet clutch is only on the power reverser. When you say 5335, I guessing you mean 5325. I guess it depends on what you are going to do with it. With 10 more HP at the PTO, you can run a 2 ft large bush hog, still not big enough for a discbine, but you could run a large baler. They weight the same.

Whatever you decide, I would go with MWFD and a loader.
