JD 5300 Brake valve

Looking for advice/experience on rebuilding the brake valve on my 5300. Has anyone done this? Is there a commonly worn out hard part or is it usually a weak o-ring? Any help is appreciated.

I have to pump the brakes on my 5300 a couple of times to get them to hold, then the pedal is close to the top of its travel. I've tried bleeding both sides with no luck. Someone mentioned that the brake valves have issues so I thought I would check it first before pulling the axles apart. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

The best way to tell if the brake valve is ok, is to cap off the lines coming out to the brakes. With the lines capped off, the pedal should be rock hard. If pedal is still spongy, then rebuild the valve. Replace check valves #9 and balls #15, plus all the orings and seals.

I finally got around to checking the brake valve. I capped both of the fittings on the output side of the valve, both pedals were rock hard. So I'm thinking I need to pull the left side axle housing and replace the linings?? I have noticed when I push just the right pedal, I have a decent amount of pedal/brake. When I push the left pedal it goes all the way down with no braking and I have to pump it a few times to get anything. I have bled both sides. When I push both pedals, both go all the way down and I have to pump as well. Any one have some other ideals before I tear into the rear axle??
