My 2008 JD 5303 4wd with 522 FEL makes a “clicking” sound when the tractor has been run for several hours at 2000 - 2400 RPM. Reducing RPM makes noise stop. I have videos of the noise and normal operating sound, but don’t see an option to post videos. First started noticing a year ago after 10-12 hours of hard use with 8’ disc harrow. Seemed to be worse when turning to left, but would do it running straight also. Looking for suggestions on what to check and if anyone else has had this issue. Once tractor cools down noise goes away.

You can put your video on youtube and then link that to your post.

Don’t have a YouTube account but may be good reason to set one up. Will take a look to see how can get videos posted. Hard to explain otherwise.

Sounds like a creaking somewhere in the loader. I'm guessing that if you take the loader off that will go away. My first guess would be the interface between the loader and the mid-point mounting posts.

DanMc may have it right. Check for mounting bolts for sure. Not coming from the fan is it? Also where is relief valve for the steering?

Has sounded like from under the hood. Have had someone drive it and walk along beside to try to pin point but couldn’t put my finger on it. Hasn’t seemed to create any performance issues. Had just lubed loader same day this was taken.

Would fan do that that many hours after operating or be more likely to do it constant?

Operated today for approximately two hours with mower. Started clicking noise again at two hour mark. Don’t believe is loader mounts. Sound coming from under hood. Will try to see next time it starts if can get better footage of it. Is no noticeable change in anything.

Ran mower this afternoon for 3-4 hours. Same noise returned. Tried lifting and lowering mower....no change. Tried turning steering left and right....no change. Crawled under tractor....seems to be from floor boards forward...behind steering wheel. Reduce engine RPM and noise goes away. Let tractor set over night and noise is gone for couple hours. Tractor gets up to temperature much quicker than two hours. Have some sort of slight leak that would appear to be hydraulic fluid coming from under hood behind steering wheel. Never has been real bad and have let it go. Hard to believe it could have anything to do with noise but thought worth mentioning.

Any thoughts or ideas welcomed!

After posting on YouTube I got a comment there to check brakes. Honestly I did not believe that could be what I was hearing. I thought about it today while mowing and for the first time experimented with applying the brakes when the noise showed up. It seemed to stop when I applied pressure to the left brake pedal more so than the right pedal. YouTube poster said he found his brake pads shot and what was making the noise on his. Here is attempt to post link to new video, John Deere 5303 tapping noise....brakes? - YouTube
