A quick intro before I beg for help! I live in Central Indiana and have a small acreage. I use to landscape, and have a 1992 770 with loader. I bought a 5400 a few years ago with a loader, and a buddy and I have just traded for a 1998 5310 w/ loader for him.
We just traded a guy for a 1998 5310 with 645 hours. The machine has set outside without being used for probably 7-8 years. The previous owner couldn't get any of the hydraulics to work, so he just let it sit. The machine had a big backhoe attachment on the back that kept him from getting to the hydraulic screen when I traded for it. The clutch was froze up, I got that free. No hydraulics would work, no 3 pt., no loader, no steering.
I got the tractor home and drained the hydraulic fluid. There was 2 gallon in the tractor. I pulled the screen and it had a paste-like slime all over it, that nothing was getting through. I soaked the screen and scrubbed it lightly, it is now clean. I dropped the MFWD gearbox, and replaced O-rings and a seal on the output shaft that the Hydraulic fluid was lost from, I think. Changed the hydraulic filter, put the Hy-guard in and I now have steering, the loader works, and the rock shafts raised, where it wouldn't before. I tried to put the 3pt. back down and it won't go. I made sure the rate of fall knob was all the way open, and I think it is, but it doesn't move very freely. I am going to remove the seat and take it out and look at it. Like I said, I think it's all the way open; what other things should I do, if the rate of fall valve is OK?
Also, I noticed the PTO is constantly turning, even if the PTO is off. Not just spinning a little, but it is on. I assume that clutch is frozen, as well. Am planning to put a bush hog on it and hit some thick stuff to see if I can free it, if I can ever get the 3 pt arms to drop to attach a bush hog!
It's a shame this tractor was let go so long, but I think I'm about to bring it back to life. After 3 wasp bites and a bee sting, I think I have killed about all the critters that were living in her. Thanks for any help!
