JD 5400 rear work light

Hi all,
I just purchased a 1994 5400. It has no rear work light. Does anyone know how to hook one up? Is the wiring almost there already? Do you run wiring from the switch? What model of light do you use? How to attach it to the ROPS? Thanks!

For most newer model JDs there is a wiring harness already in place for a rear light. I am not sure how far back this design goes but likely you have it. If so, a couple of thoughts...look for a bundle of wires by the ROPS, on either side. Look for a bullet fitting that has a cap on it. Also if you have this you likely have a switch that is in place. Usually they go hand in hand, you have both or neither more than likely. Does your light switch have a position for work lights (may not say it)? If you have this connection then you are ahead of the curve. I would pick up a light from the dealer and it will plug right in.

I looked at JD parts (URL included) and a few 5400s on tractorhouse.com. JD parts shows a RE19075 rear work floodlight, but it is for tractors after serial number 34000, which based on tractordata.com would be some time in 1994. Some of the 93 had the work light and others did not. Here is a 94 to look at (1994 JOHN DEERE 5400 40 HP to 99 HP For Sale At TractorHouse.com) the light is located by the right warning light on the ROPS.

Do you have a manual? On the light switch position C does it show a rear work light? If yours is an open station, I would take off the ROPS and see on the right side, if there is any wiring for a working light? Then using a volt meter test it out, since at least the one from JD RE19075 costs $53.
