JD 5410 Brake valve leaking a steady stream of oil

I recently observed a steady stream of oil running from the brake valve on my 5410. I bypassed the hydraulic supply hoses to keep oil from going everywhere and pulled the tractor into my shop. I then removed the valve and brake pedal assembly and observed the following: There is an unthreaded hole on the lower left side of the valve that extends into the lower left chamber. The hole then continues to the lower right chamber. There is no evidence of internal threads.

My best guess is that there was a plug in the hole and it has fallen out, but before I start a repair I want to be certain that is the problem. My local Deere dealer does not have a valve in stock but I知 sure that they値l let me look their used tractors, of course, whether or not they have any with that valve is an open question. The service manager would also probably have a good idea what to do but that will have to wait till Tuesday. The hole is not visible in the parts drawings so no help there. Finally, I致e ordered a technical manual, won稚 have that till next week either, and it is only possible that it might some insight.

If anyone has experience with this valve I would appreciate your thoughts

No experience, but I do have the tech manual TM1716. Brake valve is covered in pages 60-10-2 thru 60-10-8. No unthreaded plugs shown. By lower chamber do you mean where the brake piston goes?

One picture on page 60-10-7 showing the installation of the ball, spring, o-ring and plug (two of each) shows a raised boss on the lower left side that looks like a hole with a plug in it. I assume it was to block a drilled passage in the casting. I would think it should be drilled and tapped and have threaded plug.

I wonder if the leak is a factory drilled oil galley that had a plug? You might plug the hole with a steel ball peened in the hole,welch plug or tap threads ans screw a plug in.

Thank you Zebrafive! Your description of the picture on 60-10-7 was exactly what I was looking for. It seemed like that was supposed to be a plugged hole but I was a bit reluctant to start cutting threads in a $400+ casting without some conformation that it was the correct course of action. BTW I just sold my 2030 after almost 20 years of service. It was a great tractor but I was ready for pallet forks, FWD, and a CAB. Thanks again for taking the time to look at your manual. Thanks too Tx Jim I think I have a plan. Now if I can find my F drill and 5/16 tap

My 2030 was 20 years old when I bought it. 1974 model bought in 1994. So I've had it 20 years now. I have pallet forks for it and a grapple that is rarely off.
I wanted MFWD too. I looked long and hard for a 5XXX series, many 5x25 series. I bought the 6415 for WAY less then 5x25s I was finding. Much bigger than I wanted. But I love the Power Quad, PoweReverser, and radial tires.
If I ever get another or replacement tractor, my next will have a cab.

Having bought my 1st cab tractor in '93 I can't imagine operating a tractor without a cab especially custom baling hay in the hot,dusty Texas summertime. PS: I still own & bale hay with the tractor I bought in '93.

My tractors are for more play than work. Price of a cab was the main factor I do not have one. I as I get older, comfort will be more important than price.

I too was wondering how you resolved this issue. I have the very same exact issue on my JD 5410.
