On a JD 5520 MFWD, is it necessary to drop the front transaxle to remove the oil pan. I believe the front drive shaft has to be disconnected and slid back to provide clearance; but can you just unbolt the oil pan and slide it out?

Thanks for any help.

I have a 5520 and also have a three inch thick Technical Manual but it makes no mention of dropping the pan. Just removing the engine.
You probably wonder if the oil pickup hangs down and makes pan removal difficult. I would go to the JD website and click on the parts manuals for this. Anyone can search for this. It will give an exploded parts list you can see.
Short of that would be mechanic in a shop.
What happened to the 5520?

nothing. The gasket is leaking a little. I need to change the drive shaft protective sleeve so I thought I might as well change the gasket at the same time.
