JD 420
Hey all,
I broke the bearing cone and cup on the shaft inside the gearbox on my 60" mower deck which rides under my 1990 420 garden tractor. This is a Peerless gearbox. I have a new bearing and cup on the way. Once I pulled the gearbox off the deck and flipped it over, I'm questioning how I remove the pulley. Gear puller? What is the process to remove the base and pulley so I can get the shaft out of the gearbox? Thank you for any help. This is my first JD, and I hate to break the old girl.

It's a little difficult to to determine from photos but I think you remove existing studs and screw them in the threaded holes on the hub to push the hub loose which I'm fairly confident is tapered. I couldn't locate a parts photo of the type sheave you posted a photo of in parts catalog #1928. I'm familiar with that type tapered hub sheave as my Vermeer disc mower has a similar type drive sheave.

Bolts did the trick. The pair in the pulley were too short. I used a couple 1/4x2" bolts and walked it right out. Even found a drain plug on the bottom of the gearbox, which was a surprise.
Thanks for the help.
