My 1958, 620 will start and run as long as I keep the starter engaged ....stops firing when starter is disengaged....any ideas????

From what I understand you saying, it is only running on the starter. If the engine fires, it will outspin the starter.
But hang in there, as some help and things to try will be forthcoming.
Can you give us some history... battery, plugs, fuel, spark, parked long, etc.

Read my reply to your question on the other forum. Ign resistor is bad or wiring leading from resistor to coil is faulty.
