JD 650

Hi All-

First time posting in TBN.....

. Love this site.

We are looking to buy our first tractor. Ive been searching and searching for used at the right price.....I have come across a JD650 with a backhoe, 1337 hrs. Pics of it look very good. Owner says it is in great shape all around....he is asking $8500. Can anyone tell me if this seems to be a fair price...if the tractor is what he professes it to be?? I havent contacted the seller either btw....thought Id do a little digging first.

:welcome: to TBN! I have the 650's cousin, the Yanmar 169d. Some of the parts are interchangeable between the two and they share the same engine. I love my yanmar, it sure is worth what i payed for it. I got my tractor for $2800, no FEL or backhoe, and the 650s with FELs around here run from $4500-$6000 depending on the condition. Is the FEL and backhoe on this tractor factory from Deere or aftermarket? Does it run well? Try the 4wd, try the differential lock, and check for any leaks. My tractor had a bad leak in the front axle and I had the completly take it apart to replace the seal. It wasnt to hard, but it was a learning experience for sure. Try the fel and backhoe, use every function they possibly can. With the FEL, try using the joystick in a diagonal pattern to operate both tilt and lift at the same time, same with the hoe. Check the fluid levels; oil, coolant,hydraulic fluid, etc. Does it smoke? Operate at a higher RPM to see. My tractor only smokes when It is going up a steep grade or starting on cold days, other than that, its fine. It is a great tractor, mine has served me very well, i hope this one works out for you. :thumbsup:

Not certain if you're looking for any other type of info on the tractor, but I'll share what I dug out of my 750 manual that covers the 650 also.

HP at PTO: 14.5 @ 2600 rpm
2-cylinder

Oil capacity: 2.5 quarts with filter change
Hydraulic system: 14 quarts

Overall length: 102.5" (tractor only)
Overall width: 41.0"

Shipping weight: 1520 lbs

FEL ASAE lift capacity: 400 lbs (This is derated from the 750 yet they use the same 67 FEL. 750 is rated at 700 lbs)

If it has the same rear axle *** my Yanmar, you should be able to reverse your tires and get a wider stance for stability. :thumbsup:

If they are turf tires, the operators manual does not recommend setting them to their narrowest setting. Probably not enough fender clearance.Therefore they will be at the widest setting if they are turf tires.

Per the operators manual page 55:

9.5-24 tires: Wide tread - 35" Narrow tread - 32"
T13/15.50-15 (turf): Wide tread - 37"
