Good morning,
Can I put rear chains on my 749 all steer without rubbing issues?
Thanks, Bob W

Assume this is for an X749.

The operators manual says:
Tire chains are recommended for use with most front attachments.

Nothing about having to use spacers which early AWS required.

As the thread title says, it is for a 749

It depends on how the rear steering linkage is set up. There were 2 different types of rear steering linkage.
If the rear steering arms are close to the tires you will need spacers to use rear tire chains.

I ran a 425 AWS for years with chains. That tractor required wheel spacers to be used with chaings. When I upgraded to my X739 I automatically ordered the spacers, mostly for the extra wide stance. However, the spacers will not work with the 54" decks (dealer should have known this but did not). The HDAP tires were hitting the gauge wheels. So I returned the spacers. With 4WD, chains aren't much needed. Extra weight might be a better option. Or HDAP tires, if you don't already have them. They do a great job of not loading up with snow. But my advice is to talk to the dealer.

My X728 climbs snow banks with HDAP tires and six suitcase weights. I push a 54" bade/snow-plow and 47" snowblower with no problem.

I have a x744 and Dad has a x749....they both do great on hills without spacers. Dad plows 500ft of drive with no chains and part of it is a steep off-camber hill. He does have the 6 rear weights too.

Same here. I run 8 suitcase weights on a 100 lb 3pt hitch with HDAPs. My X739 climbs a steep drive way covered with a foot of snow. I can plow snows over 2' deep, and smaller ones are a breeze. Chains are not needed (not requiring chains is one of the reasons I upgraded from my 425). Of course, in Maine the situation might be different. If you can stay out in front of the snowfalls, you should be fine without chains even in Maine.
