John Deere 4x4 855 with 70a FEL
Hi, all. I'm looking at a JD 750 4x4 with a rebuilt front end, loader, 9"auger, 40" Howard tiller, and a 4' mower for 10500. Good deal?

Also, I've got 5 acres of kinda land that was pretty much clear cut about 20 years ago, so I'm working with old-growth scotch broom, vine maple, and blackberries. I've got flat land and some landings in there somewhere, as well as logging roads. I'm slowly clearing and planting apple trees, and then wanting to mow.....

Right rig? I've got a small budget for this-I'm a wildland firefighter and father of three.

Thanks, and great site!

(ps, I cross posted this-not sure how to take it off the more generalized buying/pricing forum)

That's a bit too much money for a CUT that old. The implements aren't worth too much.
I'd suggest about $7000-$8000 MAX. If the seller won't go for the $8K (for everything), I'd keep looking.

The 750 is old enough that parts could be a problem. And, you can find an early 790 (1998-2000) MFWD with loader for $10K-$12K.

Okay, that's pretty much what I'm thinking. Now I've got an 855 4x4 that I'm looking at. He wants 10500 as well, and I get an auger tiller and trailer. What do you think? He doesn't want to go down on the price, and I'm not sure if this is good. Seems a bit more powerful, and it's a 97, so that's good.

The 855 is a very popular tractor, even 10 (or so) years after production ended.
$10.5K would be a good price if it has a loader...does it? Do you need a loader (you'd likely regret not getting one with the tractor, BTW).
As far as the implements...are you going to need them?

If you like the 855...and it's in good to excellent condition...don't delay your decision. Good tractors in that price range sell very fast.

Best of luck to you!!

Alright, done and done. I've researched a bit more and I'm gonna jump. The 855 it is, WITH a loader, tiller, and 9" and 12" auger, and a trailer to boot. Sweet deal. Now I'll just have to figure out a rear mounted mower and blade.

Now for scotch broom, blackberries, and little 2-4" stumps, would a brush hog work or would I want a flail mower?
