Hi, guys.

I recently got a 750 and love it. It has the belly mower that utilizes a belt on the front of the mower.

A belt gave out on Friday and need to replace it. It is the one that runs the generator. It looks like I have to remove the fan AND I may have to remove the shaft that goes forward to power the front PTO.

Any warnings or suggestions before I get out my wrenches?

I have owned two 750's, but neither one had the front or mid PTO on them. So, I can't help you with that aspect of it, but I can tell you on models without those PTO's, the belt replacement is about as simple as it gets. Just loosen the generator and work the belt loose from all the pulleys. Then, you have to snake it over the fan to get it off (or you can just cut the old one off). Just reverse the steps to replace. As I recall, the fan and the fan shroud can stay in place, but you might have to flex some of the fan blades just enough to get the belt in between the fan & the shroud. I used to have a Gates belt part number that was the perfect fit & replacement that you could get at almost any parts store. You can do like I did and take the old with you to the parts store and size it up, just keep in mind the old one has stretched some.

Thanks for the response. I like this website for the helpful JD owners.

Unfortunately, I think I'm gonna have to remove the shaft that goes forward to the PTO belt pulley AND disconnect the bottom hose from the radiator. I wish it was as easy as the ones without the front PTO belt. On the other hand, then I wouldn't have the belly mower or the snow blower in the front!

Not a bad fix . . . except for the mosquitoes.

Drained radiator.
Disconnected the connecting PTO shaft between the front pulley and the fan belt pulley (quite a pain to get to the bolts on each end, and an even greater pain to get it back in place for re-installation).
Disconnected the bottom radiator hose.
Slipped belt around the fan fins, through the gap between radiator hose and bottom male connection on the radiator.
Adjusted belt tension.
Reconnected and refilled radiator system.
Reinstalled shaft for front PTO.
Mowed.

Good deal! I have may have misspoken about the radiator hose in my first reply. I sold the second 750 I had last November. I can't recall exactly when I last changed a fanbelt on it, but thinking back more on it now I seem to recall having to remove the lower radiator hose. Anyway, you got yours fixed and back to work so all is well!
