I was wondering if any of you know the tricks to replacing the PTO seal on a older JD 750? It is a old tractor that I bought a few years ago and just used for a little brush hogging and a brag harrow. My problem is when using it last week is started leaking and blowing the hydraulic fluid out around the PTO shaft and it appears that the seal is missing. I have a manual for it but after following it I am going to ask as I can't seem to find a answer for it. I assume the PTO engagement lever must be removed to pull the gear cluster out and replace the seal. What I cannot seem to find is how I go about doing that. I am open to other peoples knowledge and help so I can fix this issue so I can get this tractor up and running again.

On a side note this is a cool forum and has lots of info. Sorry if its a easy fix I'm just new to working on tractors. This is a far cry from my kids MX bikes and Karts and I want to make sure I repair it correctly

it came with a Jensales owners and service manual but they seem a bit vague at what order you need to go in to remove the cluster. That's why I posted to see if anyone has done it or can give advice on how to do it correctly. I would thin the PTO engagement lever would need to be removed but I want to make sure I do it correctly if you know what I mean

Some pics of what you have will likely help with answers for you.
Looking at jd parts, looks like the cover (key 14) would need to be removed to replace the seal (key 21).

sorry forgot to put that I have all of the bolts and nuts for the cover off and do not want to force the cluster out as it feel like something is still attached to it. That's why I'm wondering if the PTO engagement lever needs to be removed and then the cluster will just pop out. I've rebuilt motorcycle motors and Mazda Miata transmissions before but in Washington the JD stores are a monopoly all owned by one dealer network and I just want to repair it correctly the first time. The store closest to me is painful to deal with to say the least

I've not done it, but looking at where that seal is at, see no need to pull out the cluster. Just slip off the cover. Appears a nut/washer/packing to remove from the cover that connects to the PTO shifting. The parts catalog is available to you if you think these schematics can help.

Are you sure you have all the nuts and bolts off? There are two shafts with nuts on them. The shaft for the PTO shifter "beenthere" noted in post #6 and a shaft on the right side. The cover might be tight on these two shafts. I also think only the rear cover should have to come off to replace the seal.
