My tach went bonkers today then it started making noise in the dash. Think it is the cable. Will check it out tomorrow. Any any ideas of what it could be. If it a cable is there any place I can get one withut going to John Deere.

Try NAPA auto parts. They may be able to make one to fit. Robertson Fleet Service in Dallas used to make them, not sure if they have a place close to where you are. Look under speedometers in the yellow pages for a place near you.

It likely is the cable going bad.
A cable for my JD 850 is only around $16.50 through the Deere dealer.
I doubt you will save any $$ getting a cable made up elsewhere.

The tach is as quite as a mouse now. :D Cable was fine but cleaned and lubed it. The tack input shaft bushing was dry. A little LPS did the job.
It was kinda of a pain getting the gauge out and back in but no $$$$ spent.;)
