My oil pressure light flickers constantly. I have tried to find the sending unit, but cannot locate it on the engine.

I am the third owner. Is it possible someone moved the sensor to another location on the engine?

I have a 1070 and its on the right side of the engine. Look for a single wire going into a round part that screws into the side of the block. I seriously doubt if it got moved. I recently replaced mine. On my tractor the sender is open circuit with motor running and closed when off. You can test for a loose conection by unhooking the wire to sender and grounding it, then operate tractor. If the light flickers its just a loose conection. If not the sender should be about 18 dollars to replace and if that doesnt fix it then good luck. Hope it doesnt cost ya to much.

Just went a checked jd parts. Its on the same side as the oil dipstick. It doesnt show the exact location, but just look for the one wire.

I will say I had a smilar model with a similar problem. The engine gets it's oil pressure 'through the mains" whatever that means and these enignes tend to get into trouble if the oil is run low. In my case the bearings were actually bad and changing the gauge made no difference.
After saying that, these senders tend to fail as well so I hooked up a gauge just to be sure. Low oil pressure.
The solution for me was to raise the idle speed. Easy enough to do and the flickering stopped. I also used a thicker oil and that helped too.
I think this is a common problem with this series of Yanmar engines.

Hi all,

I was poking around in the engine compartment today and noticed what seems to be the oil pressure indicator light cable dangling around. Currently, when I turn the ignition switch, that light does not illuminate, however when I touched that to what I believe was a ground in the engine compartment and turned the key, it magically lit up.

My question is - where is the correct location where this should be terminated? It's very possible that this got disconnected while the engine block heater was being installed and was never reconnected.

Thanks in advance!

Steve

I realize this is an old discussion but I thought I'd add another twist.. spent the better part of two days chasing down a flickering oil light.. went so far as to hook up an oil pressure gauge.. funny thing with the oil pressure gauge installed and the original sending unit out of the tractor ( wire hanging not touching on the end) the idiot light was still flickering.. had nice steady pressure.. where the wire goes over the top of the back of the engine it was rubbing on a sharp edge and had worn through the casing.. not a nice place to get at.. slid some shrink tubing over and slightly re-routed the wire.. sensor was fine.. all back to original now..Thanks for the posts.. helped in finding it.. also the sensor is about .010 smaller on the end than standard 1/8 npt.. had to build an adapter with recut the threads to get the gauge to connect..
