JD 770
Hi, last fall I bought a '97 JD 770. It came with a back blade, brush hog & harrow. I bought a new 5 foot Rollins Box Blade late last week.

I went to hook up the box blade over the weekend and I realized the bottom pins on the box blade are about 6 inches too narrow 2 lower "3 pt arms". The new box blade has about 21 inches between the two pins. The brush hog has about 27 inches.

I did not see any way to adjust the width of the arms on the tractor.

Do I need some type of adaptor?

Do I need to buy a different box blade?

Do I need to buy different arms for the tractor?

Thanks in advance,
Bill

Pic's of the draft arms on the tractor, and the boxblade (BB) itself, would be nice. Are the pins on the box blade turned in so they are facing in the inside (towards each other)? If they are, then maybe you should unbolt them and turn them around so they are facing to the outside of the BB? They can be adjusted as needed to give you more or less width. If that doesn't solve it, then you might need to undo the linkage that limits the side to side movement of the draft link arms. If you have to do that, then you might need to get some new linkage pieces that will allow you to adjust the width of the draft arms some. I have a 790 and there is some adjustment in the linkage on both sides of the draft arms on mine.

Thanks for the input.

Here are some pics to see if that helps.

Thanks, I was just out at the shop and noticed those turn buckles. I turned one as far as I could and it looks like it will work.

duh......

Thanks again,
Bill

Bill, is it possible that your boxblade is a Category 0 implement, which has a narrower width than Cat 1 implements? It so happens I have a 4ft landscape rake that is Cat 0. To remedy this so it would fit on my 790, I made a bracket to adapt it to Cat 1. The bracket is bolted on and I can easily remove it (and turn the smaller pins inside) to convert it back to Cat 0. See pic below. If the pin diameter on your BB is smaller than the hole in the pivot bushings in your draft links, you will know for sure it's a Cat 0 implement.

The only reason I got the little 4ft rake for my 790 is cause I got it for a mere $100 off of CL. Otherwise, I would have gone ahead and bought a 5ft rake. I don't think you will have to make a bracket like I did, you should be able to get it to hook up to the draft arms once you loosen up the adjustments all the way. Let us know how it works!

PS- I just noticed the rear tires are different on your 770! What's up with that?? :)

Thanks, I will check the width of the pins today but I am pretty sure they are the same.

As to the different tread, it came that way :p. I bought it from a guy who was selling it after his father had passed away. It had been his fathers tractor. I am guessing the newer tire must have been put on due to a tire failure or large puncture of some type.

Thanks again,
BP

I also think this is a CAT 0 BB. It should still work w/ some adjustments. If not, return it.

I called the local dealer and he confirmed it is a CAT 1 Box Blade.

Thanks,

Sounds more like it has Cat. 1 pins with Cat. 0 dimensions. Like a BX style implement.
Did you happen to notice if the standard Cat. 1 width box blades had the same steel dimensions in the hitch area?
