hi guys
been enjoying reading you all on tbn, and now it' time for me to ask a (maybe) simple question.
in my operator's manual, in section on operating on slopes&rough terrain, it says to move wheels to wide position. then it says "see adjusting wheel spacing in this section.
well i've pored over the manual and am unable to find anything else on " adjusting wheel spacing"
old tractor, new to me. the wife and i bought some land full of trees, rocks, and a house built in 1850. first muti-project is build horse barm (1/4 done)
clear enough land for at least one horse (we own it but it lives 20 miles away until barn is ready) about 5 acres of 6.7 are trees. the jd has already earned my gratitude for the little i was able to do before weather stopped us.

All you can do is swap the wheels side to side. The offset built into the wheel (this is the depth from the flange (where the tire mounts) to the hub). Depending on which wheels you have, you'll see the offset is normally deeper on the inside of the wheel assuming they are mounted in the stock position.

You can also do this to the fronts. I did and this swap does provide a wider stance (6" or so is my guesstimate). The 790 (which is the successor to your 770) feels more stable on side slopes. It also feels more stable when using the loader.

The downside to this type of swap is the valve stems will be on the inside rather then the more easily accessible outside. Swapping the fronts may result in more stress on the wheel bearings. Only time will tell that.

My R-4 Industrials are pretty wide, so I had no reason to swap the rears.

If your tires aren't filled, you may want to have them filled. That added weight in the tires will add stability to your 770.
If they are filled, and you still want the wider track...well, you'll have to swap as written above. I strongly suggest you have this done by a dealer or have one or two friends helping you. Those tires are big and heavy. If they're filled, they are real heavy!

thanks roy. not sure why my manual didn't make that as clear as you did. the tire are turfs. they sure are bigger than what i normally see at my auto repair shop. the fronts aren't filled, i allready took them off, brought them to the shop to reset seeping beads, perhaps the rear are though? will find out soon enough, am buying 2 new 13.6x16's turfs in a week or two. thanks again for your help
