Hi,
New user to this site and hope to soon be new 770 owner, first tractor, because I'm not counting the Murray "lawn tractor! I have been reading all I can on this site. I was able to go to the JD site and view the owners manual for the 790 (and saved it to my computer) but not the 770.

Does anyone have this in electronic format? I'd be interested in the owners manual, parts list and tech manual.

Thanks!

Since I was able to get the operators manual for the 790 from the JD site, can anyone tell me what the significant differences would be between the 770 and the 790? I have read here that they are vary similar.

Tractordata.com has only very limited information on each of these models.

Thanks!

Roy Jackson could help you more though I haven't seen him here in a while. I have an early 790 and about all I can say is that yes, they are very similar. Likely the same sheet metal etc. and controls. The 770 may have had less power, maybe different engine and maybe different wheels/tires (or was that the 670?)? For controls, operation and service intervals, you'd be ok with the 790 info. For parts, use your dealer to be sure.

The 770 and 790 are almost identical. However the 790 makes a little more power (Is it 28 HP?) and the 770 24 hp with 21 at the PTO. I don't know if the engines are the same or if its simply an injection pump setting/power tunning thing.

Thanks for the replies, gentlemen. At this point, I am trying to make sure I know enough to see if I can run through a basic check out, start up and troubleshoot process without damaging anything through sheer ignorance. I'm hoping the 790 ops manual would get me there. I'll eventually get the proper manuals but might not have them before I get the tractor.

I'm having it hauled in from out of state, and it's pretty much a pig in a poke (but the price is right). I'm trying to decide whether to have it delivered to me and go through it myself or have it dropped at the JD dealer and have them give it a once over. I'm a decent mechanic (cars, small engines and outboards) but new to diesels and tractors. I'll try to find out more about the condition and history before I have to make that call. Seems like there is lots of good help here so maybe I'll take the do-it-yourself route.
