Have a JD 790 compact that I've owned new since 2004. Last year went with a 60 inch Buhler snow blower and am now sick of being a snowman at the end of the job.
Trying to find a decent cab for this tractor but not having much luck. Sims seems to be the only option and kinda pricey for the amount of vinyl in it.
I'm awaiting replies from some dealer inquiries but am not holding out much hope. My local dealer says no can find. Jodale- Perry may be an option if I can get any dealers to reply.
Anyone know of a source for cabs for this particular Deere? Thanks.

I've had my 790 a few years longer than you. Never seen one with a cab, in real life or here on TBN. Don't be surprised if you don't get a lot of responses as a result. There are several threads of people making their own cabs if you are handy.

Good luck, and welcome to TBN.

What a coincidence, I just saw a thread and noticed a 770 with a cab in this guy's avatar. Drop him a PM for details maybe? BTW, the 770 is the predecessor to the 790 and is basically the same tractor.

this guy's avatar.
I poked around and found a larger pic of his creation.

Thanks guys. Will keep an eye out for any dealer replies when the weekend is over. Looks like I may have to go with a Sims if I don't hear from anyone. However, I have done some looking and found lower priced alternatives to Sims' heater option if I do decide to buy one.
Heck, I may even do a little online shopping to see about trading up to something with a cab. Slow day today.

As I suspected, it's not looking so good. So far the only option seems to be a Sims. With glass rear window, and rear wiper kit I'm looking at $2713 plus another $200 to ship plus the NY governor's piracy of another $210 for a total of $3123 for a cab that's got vinyl side doors.
Add to that the fact that I'd spend another $175 on an aftermarket heater (compare to $341 @ Sims).

If you have a canopy you may look into the golf cart covers they sell at Northern tool.. not weather tights, but would keep the blowing stuff off of you

I don't know if you checked into Curtis Cabs, they make them for a number of tractors. I have one on my TC35 NH and I really like it. Its the hard sided cab, only thing vinyl on it are the side doors. I also have a heater too. I bought the tractor with the cab on it, but I do think they are a little pricey. It came with a wiper on the front, and I just installed one on the back that I bought on Ebay. Now I can blow snow all day and stay comfortable & see what I'm doing.

That is likely the least expensive route to go for these tractors. Either that, or a canopy with a "heat houser" from TSC or Rural King. The neat thing about the golf cart cover is how easily it could be put on for the winter, and taken off in the summer while still keeping the canopy on.

The photo of the one that was made by a poster looks like it might add a good deal of top heaviness to the tractor. Maybe not?

Holy cow, that's a third of the cost of a bare tractor! I guess Carhartts and ski goggles aren't so bad after all

Hey that tractor looks kinda familiar!

I can't take much credit in that monstrosity on my 770. It was the previous owner who built it. When I bought the machine, I removed the plexiglass sides and door. It would keep you dry and warm (had a heater that was spliced into the raidator hoses), but you couldn't see much and it was cobbled together pretty badly. I think the door was plywood and he used rags to seal up the gaps. It really looked horrible. I mean much worse than it does now.

I think my cab started out as something from an old grader. I'm not really sure. Hopefully this summer I'll have more time to take it off, sand blast it and straighten it out. I'd like to change a few things and paint it along with the rest of the machine.

When I bought my tractor I was looking to replace that mess with an off the shelf cab. I ran into the same things though. Only soft sided cabs are availible and they are very expensive!

Here is my 770. I bought the cab from SIMS cab. I had to buy it through my JD dealer. The 770 and the 790 are the same tractor with the exception of hp.

I had bought it new with the heater, front wiper, rear glass and wiper options. Even with the soft doors it would keep you comfortable. I think I had around $3000.00 into it. That would have been the total cost with the lighting and defrost fan.

If you want to use a rear wiper, you will have to make extensions for the rops. I believe it had to be 12". I had my local welding shop make them.

See some on Craigslist usually for older machines however prices interesting and even though have softcab on my 770 keep looking for harder cab version. This mostly for looks and right side door/opening window, gets hot in a hurry when sun out and no right side access to loader and 3pt control from outside machine. I run a blade on the front and blower on the back and see heater as a nice to have just getting out of the wind and snow makes it comfortable until temps well below zero.

Just this week on Minneapolis Craigslist under farm and garden found:

"new curtis soft side cabs in the box to fit john deere 790 compact utility tractor. retail price is $2495 closeout price is $1500.00 call Mark at Isanti County Equipment 763-444-8873. "

Checked web is legitimate Company and phone number turned out to be where I bought current machine just had different name at the time. Due to distance whole negotiation happened via email and phone were easy to work with then and stuck to the pre-arranged deal, cab turned out to be a plus, didn't know about it until they started throwing it my truck.

Look at YukonPete's post two above your last one.
My solution to this 2 year old thread was to ditch my 790 and get a Kubota B3030 HSDCC. I thought it back then and I think it today. Sims' price was way too much for a cab with nylon doors and no heat. I made the right choice for me.

I did and got exited about the closeout until I read the date.

At least you took the time to search and see if there was anything relevant to your questions that had already been posted. Nothing wrong with that.
