Hello! Looking at tractors again. The dealer has a JD 790, 2000, FEL, 749 hours, turf tires (need ag) and wants $12900.00 Well, this is about 2200.00 more than MachineryLink lists the tractor for. That's basing it on 4wd which I need to confirm whether this unit has it or not. The fel adds but I don't know how much. Further, EVERYTHING is more expensive here than what I have priced there. Anyone in the East that put in .02?

It sounds like people are happy w/ theirs from looking at some of the posts. Another question, what year was it made in a 30 hp, this is listed as 25 hp which I question it being big enough.

Thanks for any input!

Yepper, I got a 790 almost a year ago and was good money well spent still love it to this day.

But, I spent 14,100 new with 419 loader and LX5 mower.........dicker some more or move on you can do better.

Here's what I paid a few weeks ago for a new one.

790 4wd R4's (filled rear) DSCV
5 Quick Tack Weights w/ pin
419 Loader (61" standard bucket w/ level indicator)
LX5 cutter
Frontier 72" Box Blade
Frontier 72" Rear Blade
$15346.00 (before taxes)

The total for the tractor, loader, and weights (everything but the implements) was $13,664

Mine is 27 HP. I am not sure when they went from 30 to 27, but I've never heard of a 25 HP. Good Luck.

I paid $12500 for a 2003 with 24 hours on it. I bought the tractor from a dealer in southern VA. It was delivered to my home in PA. In fact, I bought mine from the same salesman GONO2 bought his 790 from...small world!

I think the price is about $900 too high...but I may have just got one heck of a deal.

If you like the machine, try to negotiate down a bit...or get some free service.

Great machine..the 2000 model has 3 more gross HP and 1 more at the PTO then my 2003 model. Your dealer is listing PTO horsepower (25 HP) which is much more realistic then gross HP.
I don't know what your tasks at hand are...but the 790 series tractors are real workers.

Good luck!

I've been shopping around south-central PA for a 4WD 790, with R4's, and loader, and the best deal that I can find "locally" is $14,475 (plus tax) /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif . None of the dealers that I've talked to will budge at all -- even for a straight-sale cash transaction...

When I priced a new 790, best price between three dealers (one in southern York County, one in Lancaster and one in northern MD) was aboutr $15300. This included the 419 loader. The pricing was done throughout most of the summer of 2003.

Since I had a solid little 670 at the time, I wasn't in any big hurry to buy. Even when I bought the 790 (found it online), I wasn't under any particular pressure to replace the 670. Just lucky enough to find a really good deal.

I have found the 790's are considerably cheaper in the South (not including Florida), but you'll find quite a few of them to be 2WD.

So...all in all, your price of $14475 is pretty good for this area...

I'm just southeast of York, BTW.

Thanks for the input. I get the sense that this is a bit pricey. It's been my experience with this dealer that they are expensive and I have not always been happy with things. My "gut" is telling me this may not be the best deal I can find.
Yes, the 25 hp is the pto hp. I had forgotten that is how MachineryLink lists hp.
Right now I am looking at orange. I talked with a sales rep I have known most of my life, and he is building a strong case for a new Kubota. Probably Sat. will go try one out. Have to look at the posts here about them to find the good/bad points and know what to ask. Hate spending this kind of money and really want to make sure it's well spent money. Been burned before....

Hey Roy, we're practically neighbors! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I live just east of York, and have visited two of the dealers you've mentioned (I haven't gone to the one in MD). I've been shopping on and off since Spring, and dang it, I need to shake this indecision and buy something!

"I live just east of York"

We sure are...

I'm in Windsor a few miles off Rt 624. Sounds like you must be in Hallam or Wrightsville.

Before I got the 790 (although that was always my first choice), I looked at the B7500 in Blue Ball and a TC-30 in Abbottstown (I work in Hanover).
The B7500 wasn't any improvement over the 670 (as far as power) and the TC-30 price was comparable to the prices I got for the 790's I'd looked at. Also, the castings for the axles on the TC-30 didn't look as robust as the 790's gear.

As I wasn't real serious about trading, I didn't try to dicker. Even when I found the machine I did buy...I was just cruising Machinefinder.com.

As I'd mentioned in an earlier post...that $14475 price is close to a thousand under the best price I got.

There was a used 790 with the #70 FEL and #7 backhoe at Southern York Turf and Tractor in Shrewsbury last time I was there (about a month ago). The tractor had around 200 hours on as I recall. I din't ask about the price, but my guess would be around $16K since it had a backhoe.

CUT's are in demand around here so it's tough to find a really good deal.

I bought my 2000 JD 790 about two months ago. It had 160 hours, a 70 FEL, ag tires, 5 foot howse brush cutter, and a 6 foot land pride blade. I paid $11,900 for the works.
