JD 790 Satoh Beaver
Ok I have to know if this is true. I have bought a JD 790 and ow found out that there is only 815lbs of lift on the 3 point. So now I am paninicing because I am going to use this machine for commerical use. (mind youI have not taken delivery yet) So I call the dealer and ask the question WHY IS THE 3 POINT ONLY RATED FOR 815lbs and his response goes like this. It seems that Johndeere has rated the 3 point at the lift balls not the short lift arms. IS THIS TRUE!!!!

The JD spec shows that the 815 pounds is rated 24 inches behind the draft link ends. This means it would be considerably higher at the link ends themselves. If by "short arms" you mean the rockshaft arms, then no manufacturer I am aware of rates lift capacity there. The industry standard means of rating 3 point lift capacity on Cat I hitches is at 2 feet behind the draft link balls since that is the approximate location of the Center of Gravity of many implements that could be attached. Some implements such as a rotary cutter would be more than 2 feet.

Most implements that the 790 can handle otherwise would weigh much less than 815 pounds, so I don't think you have a problem here.

Hope this helps clarify the ratings for you. Enjoy your new tractor.

I've had my 790 for nearly a year now. I have no problem lifting a 500 lb Woods 60" mower that extends at least five feet behind the end of the lifting arms.

I hope you enjoy your 790 as much as I've enjoyed mine.

Some manufacturers, not John Deere in this case, rate their lift capacity with their standard lift arms, but due to tire interferences offer an optional extended lift arm. The lift ratings would be lower with these extended lift arms. The 790 has a quite generous lift arm length and does not need an extended lift arm to give more clearance. This may have been the reason for the short arms reference.

By the way, what did you get on your 790? Front weights, front loader, I-match?

All I got was #70 FEL (I think) if memory serves me and power beyond so I can hook up my backhoe.

Great starting point. There's plenty of time and choices for add-ons. Enjoy.
